Everything you need to know about Hulu in Australia
It’s no secret that America is the king of streaming. But Australia is doing a mighty fine job at keeping up, particularly in the last few years. Anything they can do, so can we. Well, almost. One streaming platform that you’ve likely heard of but haven’t seen is Hulu, the home to plenty of top-notch American content. But is there a reason why you haven’t seen any shows on Hulu? Find out everything you need to know about Hulu in Australia with this Canstar Blue guide.
What is Hulu?
Hulu is an on-demand, subscription-based streaming service owned by Disney+, operating similarly to our much-loved Netflix and Stan . However, the platform differs from others in that it grants users early access to the latest episodes of their favourite cable network television shows. It also places a priority on current television and original content, rather than loved movie classics and documentaries (that’s not to say there isn’t some on the platform, though).

How much does Hulu cost?
Hulu costs between $6.99 and $69.99 USD per month, depending on the type of plan that users want to sign up to. The more expensive plans give you access to Hulu’s library of content ad-free, as well as live TV, although in America, you can also opt to combine your Hulu subscription with a Disney+ and ESPN+ subscription, allowing for a larger library of content to enjoy.
Is Hulu available in Australia?
Hulu is not available to sign up to or access in Australia, unless you’re willing to run a VPN to make your way through Hulu’s ‘geo-blocking’. However, using a VPN would put you in breach of Hulu’s terms and conditions given it has commercial arrangements in place to protect the copyright of its content, so be advised there could be ramifications if you decide to skirt the geo-blocking for some new TV shows.
It’s also worth pointing out that, even if you do manage to trick Hulu’s geo-blocking with a VPN, you’ll still face the challenge of actually signing up to Hulu to access its content. You’ll need an American address and zip code, plus a credit card that Hulu’s payment system will not be suspicious of.
Will Hulu ever come to Australia?
Unfortunately, there’s been no official statement by Hulu that it has any intention of bringing the streaming service Down Under in the near future. However, there is a glimmer of hope in the form of Disney – which owns majority stake in the company – and its aspirations of “global growth”. Let’s hope they come through for us, hey.

If you’re after more family-friendly content, Disney, which owns Hulu, has its own streaming service, Disney+. There are two plan options to choose from – a monthly subscription, or prepay for a year. This table includes links to a referral partner.
