Amazon Prime will increase its subscription prices in the coming months, including the price of Amazon Prime Video.
An Amazon Prime subscription, which covers the shopping section of Amazon alongside the brand’s video and music streaming services, will increase from $6.99 per month to $9.99 (a 42% increase), with its annual subscription jumping from $59 to $79 (a 33% increase).
The changes will come into effect on May 24, 2023, for new subscribers, and June 28, 2023, for existing Prime subscribers.
“Prime members love the combination of shopping, savings and entertainment in one membership that Prime provides them, and we are committed to continue investing in and growing the value of Prime,” said Amazon Australia’s Head of Prime, Marcos Regalo.
“With the continued expansion of Prime member benefits, and so we can continue growing the offering, we will change the price of Prime,” Regalo said.
The price increase comes off the back of rival streaming services such as Netflix offering a cheaper plan to battle rising costs of living and dwindling subscriber numbers.
