What is the Google Pixel 9 release date?
The Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold ranges will be available for pre-order in Australia from Wednesday, August 14. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL will be available starting August 22, while the Pro Fold will hit stores from September 2. The Pixel 9 Pro will arrive in Australia at a later date.
You’ll be able to buy all Pixels on phone plans from Telstra, Optus and Vodafone, as well as outright from the Google Store, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and Officeworks.
How much does the Google Pixel 9 cost?
This year’s entry-level Pixel 9 is priced from $1,349 — $150 more than the 128GB Pixel 8. However, the mid-priced Pro retails its $1,699 price point, with the upgrade Pro XL starting at $1,849 and the premium Pro Fold at $2,699.

Google’s Pixel 9 range includes the standard Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro, and the all-new Pixel 9 Pro XL. Each device comes with a durable matte glass finish and polished metal frame, plus IP68 water and dust resistance.
All three phones feature a smooth Super Actua display and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for seamless scrolling. Screen sizes for each phone are:

Each new Pixel comes with over 24 hours of battery life per charge, with up to 100 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode. Both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro include a 4,700mAh battery, with the bigger Pro XL offering 5,060mAh. All three devices are compatible with Google’s 45W fast charging, plus Qi fast wireless charging and PowerShare.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the first folding Google phone to enter the Australian market, placing it firmly in competition with Samsung’s Z Fold and Z Flip 6 series and Motorola’s Razr 50 line. The phone includes a big, bold 8-inch Super Actua inner display, along with a 6.3-inch outer screen when folded. The internal and external screen both offer a smooth refresh rate of up to 120Hz, along with peak brightness of up to 2700 nits in direct sunlight.
The Fold’s split screen functionality and hands-free viewing options make it a go-to device for multi-tasking and professional use, especially when combined with Google’s Gemini AI features. The Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold come with a one-year trial subscription to Google’s One AI Premium, so you’ll have access to AI help in Gmail and Docs plus 2TB of cloud storage.
With Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both front and back, an IPX8 water resistance rating, and a tough multi-alloy steel hinge, the Fold is built to last. Like the other Pixels, it includes seven years of Android and Pixel Drop security and system updates. It’s powered by Google’s Tensor G4 processor, with end-to-end protection from the Titan M2 security co-processor.
Google has thrown in a 4,650 mAh battery, which offers up to 72 hours of use when combined with Extreme Battery Saver. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is also compatible with Google’s 45W fast charger, so you can boost your battery back up to 55% from zero in as little as 30 minutes.
Double the screens means even more camera options, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with an impressive triple rear system powered by Gemini AI. You’ll get a 48-megapixel wide camera, 10.5-megapixel ultra-wide, and 10.8-megapixel telephoto camera in back, with 5x optical zoom and up to 20x Super Res Zoom. In front and on the inside, the Fold also packs a 10-megapixel lens, giving you additional photography angles when your device is unfolded.
Like the Pixel 9 Pro, the Fold comes with a long list of camera and editing options, including new additions like Add Me and Best Take. You’ll get Video Boost for up to 8K video resolution, along with features including Night Sight, Astrophotography and Macro Focus for close-up detail.
