If you’re keen to ditch the dreary Aussie winter for a sun-and-sand trip to warmer climates, you’ve now got more options than ever for keeping in touch with family and friends back home. Another telco has jumped on the ‘new international roaming’ bandwagon, with Belong launching its $30 international roaming pack — great news if you’re a Belong customer about to head overseas.
With international travel well and truly on the cards for many Aussies, having easy access to a travel pack is essential, Belong’s Head of Product, Aaliah Eggins-Bryson said.
“As Aussies are eager to travel this year, we are really excited to be offering a great value International Roaming travel pack, focused on giving our customers the tools to stay connected and in contact with loved ones while abroad.”
Belong international roaming — what do you get?
For belong customers, it’s a rather convenient add-on to your current plan. For $30, you’ll get 3GB of data, unlimited standard SMS and 150 minutes of calls (inbound and outbound), all to use over 15 days. If you’ve run out of your inclusions before your 15 days are up, you can also add on another pack.
The Belong international roaming pack is available to use in over 30 destinations, including:
- Austria
- Canada
- China
- Croatia
- Denmark
- Fiji
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Hong Kong
- Indonesia
- Japan
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Spain
- Sweden
- United Kingdom
- USA
You’ll need to be a Belong customer in order to add on the travel pack to your existing plan. Belong offers four postpaid phone plans operating on the wholesale Telstra 4G and 5G networks (Belong is a Telstra subsidiary). Prices start at $25 for 20GB of data and go up to $55 for 160GB of data.
What about international roaming from other telcos?
In the past year, other telcos have released — or revamped — their international roaming. Both Amaysim and Boost Mobile launched international roaming add-ons to customers, while Optus launched a $5 A Day roaming to compete with the long-running Vodafone $5 per day roaming.
Prepaid providers Amaysim and Boost Mobile have added optional international travel packs for existing customers to add on to their plans. While Amaysim offers four roaming packs to choose from with a range of price points and inclusions, all plans have a 365-day expiry. This means that any leftover from one trip can be used on another overseas trip if it’s within that 365-day expiry period — as long as it’s to any of the over 90 destinations covered by Amaysim’s roaming. Amaysim’s roaming packs start at $20 with no data inclusions (just call and SMS) and go up to $70 with 5GB of data.
Boost Mobile offers three different roaming packs, with expiry periods differing between each one. The roaming packs start at $20 with 1GB of data over a 3-day expiry, and go up to $40 for 5GB over a 14-day expiry.

As for Optus, for $5 per day while you travel (on top of your eligible Optus plan costs), you’ll get 5GB of data along with unlimited calls and SMS when you travel within Zone 1 destinations.
Vodafone’s $5 per day roaming is slightly different — you’ll pay $5 per day when travelling on top of your eligible plan fees. However, that $5 per day allows you to access your phone plan’s inclusions like you would at home (minus any unlimited data, both capped and uncapped speeds).
