iiNet has launched its Ultra Broadband cable internet plan across regional Victoria, with a cut-throat new customer discount that can save you up to $420 off the standard price in your first 12 months.
The plan is available to new connections in select regional Victorian centres including Geelong, Mildura, Canberra and Ballarat and is designed to compete directly with the NBN.
Here’s a breakdown of the new plan:
- Monthly cost: $54.99 for the first 12 months (then $89.99 ongoing)
- Speed: Estimated typical evening speeds of 90 megabits per second (Mbps)
- Savings: $35 off per month for the first year, totaling $420 in savings
The plan includes unlimited data, a dual-band Wi-Fi modem, and comes with an added bonus of a no lock-in contract.
iiNet’s Ultra Broadband plan offers speeds comparable to NBN 100, but at a competitive price for your first 12 months. NBN 100 plans typically retail for around $80 – $120 per month, depending on your choice of telco.
iiNet’s own NBN 100 plan costs $89.99 per month for unlimited data, although new customers can score a $10 per month discount for their first six months. This plan comes with a slightly faster typical evening download speed of 97 Mbps, and is much more widely available than Ultra Broadband or cable.

Amidst the cost of living crisis and with data downloads increasing by 30% each year, the plan aims to alleviate financial stress for Australians in need of a fast, unlimited home internet solution at a more affordable price.
The competitive pricing of iiNet’s Ultra Broadband plan is made possible through the use of Vision Network infrastructure.
Vision Network, owned by TPG Telecom, is Australia’s largest non-NBN wholesale broadband network, connecting 400,000 households to its cable network. TPG’s Vision Network uses high-speed fibre optic cables to connect your home, offering a fast and reliable alternative to NBN.
iiNet has specifically tailored this new plan for select regional Victorian centres as these areas give customers more choice of broadband products, and may provide a more reliable alternative to NBN.
The launch comes after Telstra announced its NBN plans will increase by up to $5 per month from July 1. Telstra’s NBN plans currently begin at $85 per month for NBN 25 speeds, with NBN 100 plans priced at $110 monthly.
