Compare NBN Plans
Compare NBN Providers and Plans.
Our ratings compare a range of NBN providers based on customer satisfaction, as rated by Australians. Think of it like asking a wide range of Aussies about what NBN provider they think is best, but all in one place.
Canstar Blue surveyed 4,648 Australians with a current NBN service for their feedback on NBN providers they’ve been signed up to. Respondents had to have a current internet service in their name, and be the bill payer.
Survey respondents are asked to rate their satisfaction with their NBN provider from zero to 10, with zero meaning extremely dissatisfied and 10 meaning extremely satisfied. NBN provider satisfaction is rated on the following criteria:
The winning brand is the brand that receives the highest Overall satisfaction rating. All the scores from the Overall satisfaction criteria are then combined and averaged to determine the overall winner.
To qualify in the ratings results, providers must have received a minimum of 30 responses to be included. Therefore, not all NBN providers will be compared in this survey. Providers rated in this survey are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

Aussie Broadband scored five stars across most categories, including overall satisfaction, speed and reliability, customer service, and bill and cost clarity, while it scored four stars for value for money and ease of setup.
Aussie Broadband has grown significantly in the past several years, in what is a very crowded NBN market. While the bigger providers have started to lose market share, Aussie Broadband has experienced consistent growth, and its ratings results indicate it is still a popular provider with customers.
Its NBN plans are priced fairly average, although slightly more expensive than some of its competitors. However its Australian-based customer support could be a drawcard if this is a top priority for you. In addition to NBN plans, you can also sign up to Opticomm plans, SIM-only postpaid plans, mobile broadband plans and entertainment add-ons (in the form of Fetch).
Entering our NBN provider ratings for the first time, Superloop took out second spot, scoring four stars for overall satisfaction, customer service and most other categories except value for money and ease of setup, where it was the only brand to score five stars in both categories.
Superloop is yet another challenger brand, growing its NBN market share in the past few years. It offers a wide range of speed tiers, starting at NBN 25 and going up to NBN 1000 speeds. Prices are fairly competitive, especially if you’re looking at faster plans. Superloop also regularly offers discounts to new customers, so it’s worth keeping an eye to see what’s on offer.
SpinTel dropped to third place from the previous year, with a four-star score across all categories, except for bill and cost clarity, where it scored five stars.
SpinTel keeps its NBN plans fairly straightforward with a selection of speeds that can be bundled with an optional modem. Its NBN plan prices are on the slightly cheaper end of the average price range and it offers up to NBN 1000 speeds. You can also pick up phone plans, mobile broadband and 5G home internet plans.
Exetel took fourth place, scoring four stars across most categories, including overall satisfaction and value for money. The exception was in speed and reliability, where it scored five stars.
Exetel, which is owned by fellow NBN provider Superloop, offers a wide range of NBN speed tiers starting at NBN 25 and going up to NBN 1000, with fairly averagely-priced plans. It also offers a range of other fibre internet plans including OptiComm and LBN Co, along with mobile phone plans.
iiNet came in fifth place, scoring four stars across all categories including overall satisfaction, value for money and customer service.
Another provider under the TPG Telecom umbrella, iiNet has been a big name in the internet space for many years. It offers a wide range of NBN plans, starting at NBN 12 speeds and going up to the ultra-fast NBN 1000. iiNet also offers a wide range of non-NBN internet plans including 5G home internet and home wireless broadband, along with a range of prepaid phone plans.
Origin jumped up from tenth in last year’s ratings to sixth spot in 2024, scoring four stars across all categories, except ease of setup where it scored three stars.
While mostly known as an energy provider, Origin made its mark in the NBN space, winning the 2022 Most Satisfied Customer ratings for NBN providers, and winning the 2024 and 2023 Most Satisfied Customers award for bundled energy and telecommunications providers. Its strength is in bundling, with discounts on your internet if you bundle with an energy service. Origin’s internet plans are fairly simple, with speeds starting at NBN 25 and going up to NBN 1000.
Jumping up a couple places from last year, iPrimus took out seventh place, scoring four stars across most categories, including overall satisfaction. It also scored five stars for speed and reliability.
iPrimus, which is part of the Vocus Communications umbrella company along with Dodo, offers a simple selection of NBN plans. Options start at NBN 25 speeds and go up to NBN 1000, with each additional speed available as a speed ‘add on’ to the core NBN 25 plan.
Foxtel made a significant jump in our NBN provider ratings, from 15th in 2023, up to eighth place in 2024. It scored four stars across all categories, except ease of setup, where it scored three stars.
Foxtel’s NBN plans are a bit of an outlier, as the main focus is on providing bundled plans with Foxtel packages. All of Foxtel’s plans come with NBN 50 speeds only, with the option to upgrade to NBN 100 if eligible, and the entertainment package you choose to add on will determine the plan’s final cost.
Taking out ninth place was TPG, scoring four stars for overall satisfaction, value for money, customer service and bill and cost clarity, while it scored three stars for speed and reliability and ease of setup.
Perhaps one of the biggest names in the NBN space is TPG, which merged with Vodafone several years ago to form the TPG Telecom group. Like its fellow TPG Telecom companies, its NBN plans start at NBN 12 speeds and go up to NBN 1000, so there’s a speed for all types of households. Its NBN plan prices are slightly cheaper than some of its TPG Telecom counterparts, especially if you’re looking at the slower speed tiers. TPG also offers a range of home wireless broadband plans and mobile phone plans.
Dodo made a significant jump up from 16th place in our 2023 ratings to 10th spot, scoring four stars for overall satisfaction, value for money and bill and cost clarity. It also scored three stars for speed and reliability, customer service and ease of setup.
Dodo offers a simple selection of NBN plans, starting at a slower speed-capped plan with up to 15Mbps download speeds and going up to the NBN 250 speed tier. You’ll have the option to add on a modem and you can also save on your plan fees when bundling with a Dodo energy plan.
The remaining NBN providers that were included in our 2024 ratings for Most Satisfied Customers for NBN Providers included:
AGL, Telstra, Vodafone and Tangerine all scored four stars for overall satisfaction and received a mix of four and three star results across the remaining categories, while both Optus and Belong rounded out our ratings with three stars across all categories, including overall satisfaction.
Of course, with the sheer number of NBN providers in operation, there are far more providers than those that have been included in our ratings. You can use our NBN plan comparison tool to compare more NBN plans and providers.

There are around 150 NBN providers offering internet services across Australia, so it can be a complicated market to navigate. While many might be tempted to sign up to an NBN plan with their phone plan provider, or a name they’re familiar with, shopping around and comparing a wider range of plans and providers could help you save money and find a plan that is better suited to your household’s needs.
When you’re comparing NBN providers and their plans, there are a few key things you’ll want to consider to help you find the best plan for your needs.
There are several different speed tiers available, however not all providers will offer every speed. Understanding which NBN speed you need is important to ensure that you’re not suffering the slow speeds of a plan that isn’t suited to your usage, along with ensuring that you’re not paying too much for a speed that you don’t need.
When comparing NBN providers, it’s best to have an idea of which speed tier you need, so you can then compare providers across other factors such as cost and any extras you may want (modem, entertainment, etc).
The most popular speed tier is NBN 50, and 26% of survey respondents were on an NBN 50 plan. This may also be the fastest speed available to you depending on the NBN connection type at your address. In order to sign up to a faster plan, you may need a FTTP or HFC connection, but it’s always best to check with the provider if you’re unsure.
Once you have an idea of which speed you need, you can compare a range of plans on that speed tier to see how much providers generally charge for these services. If you have a set budget, you might prefer to look at providers that fit within your price range. Likewise, if you’re looking to save some money on your plan fees, you might prefer to look at providers which offer discounts.
According to our survey results, the average price Aussies pay for their NBN plan is $76 per month, which is around what you can expect to pay for some NBN 50 plans. Cheaper plans will typically cost less than this, while faster NBN plans will cost closer to $100 and up.
Some NBN providers will offer extras beyond the simple plan, sometimes with an additional cost. This can come in the form of a modem, which could be for an upfront cost or with fees waived if you stay connected for a set amount of time. Some providers also offer the option to add on a home phone line (and call packs), entertainment inclusions and more. If you’re after a plan with any of these extras, it could be worth shopping around to see what is on offer.
Over a third of survey respondents have been connected to the NBN for five years or more. However, it doesn’t mean that it’s all smooth sailing as some Aussies experience issues with their NBN service or provider.
The most common issue Aussies have experienced with their NBN service is dropouts (32%), followed by speed issues, such as slow downloads/uploads (26%) and connection issues (23%). A lucky 47% of our respondents claimed to have not experienced any issues with their service.
When it comes to what Aussies value the most from their NBN provider, data allowance tops the list (with an importance rating of 8.3), potentially indicating that access to unlimited data is a priority for many households. Equal second with 8.1 is the cost of the plan and the download speed, while having a modem included with the plan was also important with a 7.8 rating. Being able to manage an account through a mobile app and retail store assistance were rated the lowest two factors, with 6.0 and 5.5 ratings respectively.
It’s also clear that Aussies are generally happy to stick to their NBN provider long-term. Out of those surveyed, eight years was the average amount of time that respondents had been with their provider. However this is a decrease from the previous year’s results where 12 years was the average amount of time, indicating that more Aussies could be switching to a different provider — and maybe a better deal.
Of course, if you’re unhappy with your current NBN provider, or you’re hoping to get a better deal elsewhere, it always helps to compare a wide range of NBN plans and providers to find the best plan for your needs.

Meet the Research TeamCanstar Blue surveyed over 12,000 Australian adults across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction, via ISO 26362 accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who currently have an NBN plan in their name and they pay the bills – in this case, 4,648 people.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then by mean overall satisfaction. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
