Low-cost telco Flip is throwing its hat into the bundled utilities ring, launching a range of electricity and gas plans that come with serious discounts for NBN customers.
Flip’s energy range is powered by fellow bundled utilities provider Sumo, and offers customers in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland the option of combining NBN and power plans. Aside from convenience, Flip’s bundled plans offer a substantial ongoing NBN discount, as well as a current bonus offer that reduces the cost of your broadband plan to as little as $24.90 monthly for your first six months.
Customers in eligible areas can bundle any Flip NBN plan with electricity only, gas only, or with both. While Flip takes care of the internet side, energy plans are supplied by Sumo, an Australian-owned provider of telco and energy services. The electricity options are based on Sumo’s existing Sumo Assure plans in NSW and VIC, and Sumo Assure Advantage in QLD, although Flip has told Canstar Blue that both NSW and QLD customers will be offered ‘Sumo Flip’ energy options which may feature more competitive rates.
These bundle plans are available to existing Flip NBN customers, as well as new buyers looking for a combined utilities option. Customers can select from bundling NBN and electricity, NBN and gas, or signing up to all three products where available.
Flip NBN bundle discounts: save up to $270 annually
Bundling NBN and electricity or gas will net you an ongoing monthly discount of up to $10 per month on your broadband when compared to Flip’s standard prices; bundle electricity and gas, and you’ll get either $15 or $20 off the standard price per month, depending on your plan.
So bundle NBN, electricity and/or gas as a Flip customer, and you’ll pay the following for your NBN plan:
Speed Tier | Standard price per month | Price per month with electricity or gas | Price per month with electricity and gas |
---|---|---|---|
Flip Value / NBN 12 | $44.90 per month | $39.90 per month | $29.90 per month |
Flip Premium / NBN 25 | $54.90 per month | $49.90 per month | $39.90 per month |
Flip Family / NBN 50 | $64.90 per month | $55.90 per month | $49.90 per month |
Flip Turbo Boost / NBN 100/20 | $79.90 per month | $69.90 per month | $64.90 per month |
Flip Turbo Plus / NBN 100/40 | $89.90 per month | $79.90 per month | $69.90 per month |
Flip Super Speed / NBN 250 | $94.90 per month | $84.90 per month | $74.90 per month |
However, Flip is currently offering an additional six-month introductory discount for new customers, which slashes a further $5 or $10 off your monthly NBN price. So in that six-month period, you can get NBN 12 for as low as $24.90 per month, NBN 50 for $39.90 per month, and even super-fast NBN 250 for just $69.90 per month.
This equals a potential first-year saving of up to $270 on your NBN plan, when compared to Flip’s standard monthly NBN prices. This offer is available to new customers until May 31, 2023, unless extended.
All of Flip’s NBN plans include unlimited data, are offered on a month-to-month basis, and are BYO modem, with the option of adding hardware at the checkout. You can compare Flip’s current offers for standalone NBN in the tables below, but keep in mind that you can also proceed to Flip’s energy options via the below links.

Flip energy: what to expect
Flip’s energy partnership with Sumo is available to eligible customers in NSW, QLD and VIC. Although the plans are similar to the existing Sumo Assure and Sumo Assure Advantage options available directly from Sumo, customers buying as part of a Flip energy and NBN bundle may be offered slightly different rates for electricity or gas.

Other telco and energy bundles
Flip is far from the only internet provider jumping into the energy space — in fact, the telco’s partner Sumo has been a long-term supplier of both energy and NBN. Sumo sells electricity and gas in NSW and VIC, and electricity only in QLD and SA.
Sumo customers wishing to bundle internet and energy can save up to $15 per month on their NBN bills: you’ll score a $10 monthly discount for adding electricity, and $5 per month for gas. Sumo’s NBN plans include NBN 25, NBN 50, and NBN 100 options, and begin at $70 per month for NBN 25 (or $55 per month when bundled with electricity and gas).
Two of Australia’s biggest energy retailers, Origin and AGL, have also branched out into telco (with Origin being the inaugural winner of Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers Award for Bundled Energy and Telecommunications). Origin offers customers in NSW, VIC ,QLD, SA and the ACT the option to bundle energy and gas with home internet, and gives combined telco and energy customers a $10 per month broadband discount.
AGL also lowers internet prices for customers who bundle their plan with electricity or gas, with a slightly higher $15 per month discount on offer. Customers with an AGL SIM-only mobile plan will also receive a $5 monthly discount when bundled with energy, adding up to potential telco savings of $20 per month. AGL’s energy plans are available in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA, with gas also offered in Western Australia.
Several smaller providers also offer energy and telco bundles, including Dodo, 1st Energy, and Kogan Energy. Dodo customers can save $10 per month for bundling NBN with electricity and gas, and 1st Energy also offers a $10 discount for bundling. Kogan Energy may give customers discounts from time to time, although no ongoing offers are available at present.

Things to consider before bundling utilities
While bundling energy and telco with one provider can offer convenience — and the lure of a monthly discount — it may work out cheaper to keep these services separate. When shopping around, you’ll want to compare the annual cost of a provider’s energy plan next to other offers on the market, as well as usage and supply charges and any other fees that may apply. Electricity and gas plans tend to be harder to compare than NBN, as what you’ll pay will depend on your usage; while a $10 or $15 monthly discount adds up, it may not be a cheap as getting energy from a standalone provider.
Overall, it’s best to check the fine print — and compare plans available in your area — before deciding if bundling energy and internet is right for you.
