What NBN plans does Telstra offer?

Of all the Telstra internet plans on offer, the telco’s NBN plans are perhaps the most popular product, especially considering that the NBN rollout is complete in most cities and regional hubs. New customers will also be supplied with a Telstra WiFi modem on month-to-month plans, although cancelling your plan before 24 months will require you to return your modem or pay a non-return fee.

When signing up to Telstra NBN, you’ll have a choice between several different speed tiers — NBN 25 (also known as Basic), NBN 50 (also known as Standard) and NBN 100 (also known as Fast), plus speed add-ons of NBN 250 (also known as Superfast) and NBN 1000 (also known as Ultrafast) — with unlimited data available on all plans. Access to certain speed tiers also depends on your location and home NBN connection.

Telstra NBN plans prices

As Telstra offers NBN plans across a range of speed tiers — starting at NBN 25 speeds and going up to NBN 1000 — the Telstra NBN plans’ prices vary between each speed tier. Telstra is typically a more expensive NBN provider, so you’ll find NBN 25 plans start at around $90 per month and its NBN 1000 prices go up to around $150 per month. Keep in mind that NBN wholesale prices can change and Telstra is known to adjust its NBN plan prices accordingly.

Telstra NBN speeds

While Telstra offers plans with most of the NBN speed tiers — only skipping the NBN 12 tier and NBN 100/40 — the real-world experience you get with a Telstra NBN plan will vary. NBN providers list the typical evening speed alongside plans to give customers an idea of what kind of speeds they’re likely to experience in the busy evening peak between 7pm and 11pm.

However, each household will be different, so these typical evening speeds are meant to give you a guide on how a provider will usually perform when the network is at its busiest. You can read our guide on typical evening speeds to find out more and check Telstra’s NBN speeds.

Telstra NBN home phone bundles

All NBN plans from Telstra come with a standard home phone pack which includes unlimited standard calls to local, national, Australian mobile numbers and ’13’ numbers. You’ll also get 30 minutes of international calls included. If you need more than the basic inclusions, or you just want a standard home phone service, Telstra offers a home phone plan with the same local call inclusions, but with discounted international calls.

FAQs about Telstra NBN

Telstra offers a wide range of internet and mobile services, and while it might be better known for its mobile network, it still comes out on top for NBN market share. The ACCC’s NBN Wholesale Market Indicators Report in March 2024 found that Telstra had 39.9% of the NBN market — making it the largest NBN provider in the country (ahead of TPG with 20.7%). However, Telstra has experienced a drop in customers as in previous reports as far back as 2019, Telstra had around 50% of the NBN market share.

Having problems with your Telstra NBN plan? Is there a Telstra NBN outage at your home? If you need to get in touch with Telstra, whether its billing support or a technical issue, Telstra has several options for customer support.

  • Telstra customer service number: 13 22 00
  • 24/7 online chat functions on the Telstra website and Telstra app
  • FAQs section on website for general questions

In addition to NBN plans from Telstra, you can also add on entertainment packages to your plan. This includes Fetch along with video streaming subscriptions like Disney+, BINGE and Foxtel Now. You can also choose to add on Kayo and Spotify, or for gamers, you can add on consoles from PlaySation, Xbox and Nintendo.

Keep in mind that you’re just adding on a subscription or service to your Telstra account/bill rather than getting free bundled-in entertainment packages. While you might be able to get free subscriptions when signing up as a new customer, typically you will need to pay for your subscription on top of your standard Telstra plan.

Canstar Blue may earn a fee from its Online Partners for referrals from its website tables, and from sponsorship or promotion of certain products. Fees payable by product providers for referrals and sponsorship or promotion may vary between providers, website position, and revenue model. Sponsorship/promotion fees may be higher than referral fees. If a product is sponsored or promoted, it’s an ad and it is clearly marked as such. An ad might appear in different places on our website, such as in comparison tables and articles. Ads may be displayed in a fixed position in a table, regardless of the product's rating, price or other attributes. The location of an ad doesn’t indicate any ranking or rating by Canstar Blue. Payment of fees for ads does not influence Value Rank or Customer Satisfaction Ratings. See How We Get Paid to find out more.

NBN Value Rank & Sort Order

The data in the table is updated within 24 hours of Canstar Blue becoming aware of a change. You can find a description of the initial sort order below the table. You can use the sort buttons at the top of each column to re-order the display. Learn more about our NBN Value Rank Methodology

Please note that the Customer Satisfaction rating displayed in the table is a rating relating to customer overall satisfaction with the brand, and should not be confused with an individual product rating. Learn more about NBN Customer Satisfaction ratings and for more information on how the Customer Satisfaction ratings are calculated, read the Canstar Blue Customer Satisfaction Ratings Methodology.

The ratings shown are only one factor to take into account when considering products. The results do not include all NBN retailers or products in the market, and may not compare all features relevant to you. Canstar Blue does not supply internet services. If you decide to apply for a particular NBN plan, you will deal directly with the NBN retailer, and not with Canstar Blue. Fees, charges, product information and contract terms should be confirmed directly with the relevant NBN retailer. The NBN plans listed are suitable for Fixed Line connections for residential purposes.

NBN Speed Tiers

The speed associated with a speed tier is the typical evening download speed of the plan. These tiers are based on a range of usage scenarios set out by NBN Co. Internet speeds on the NBN network are influenced by factors like access technology, equipment quality, chosen plan, and network design. Speeds may fluctuate during busy periods and depend on the number of users online simultaneously, as well as your NBN access technology. Check with a retailer before purchasing a product to see what speed you will likely receive at your address.

Typical Evening Speed

The typical evening speed of personal household plans can also be known as typical busy period speed. Typical busy period speeds are the download/upload speeds the plan typically delivers between 7pm and 11pm each day (the busy period). The method for measuring and verifying the typical busy period speed may differ between retailers, however all retailers must conform to an ACCC legislated base case. The typical evening speed for each product is displayed in accordance with the product information developed by the retailer. The accuracy of the speed information should be confirmed with the relevant NBN retailer.

When 'TBC' is displayed this means that the provider is currently unable to provide typical evening speed estimates because sufficient data is not yet available.
The ACCC monitors the performance of internet providers. You can read more here. The speeds you experience may be lower than the advertised typical evening speed depending on factors such as your in-home set up and wiring.

Unlimited Data

Where 'unlimited' is used in relation to Data available on a plan it is likely to be subject to a fair use policy. Please confirm any terms of a fair use policy with your selected provider before making a purchase decision.
