What NBN plans does Optus offer?

Optus NBN plans are available across a couple different plan types and several speed tiers. There’s a more basic NBN plan type with speeds starting at NBN 25 and going up to NBN 1000, while the entertainer plan, which includes Netflix and other inclusions, starts at NBN 50 and goes up to NBN 1000 speeds.

All NBN plans from Optus are month-to-month and have the option to either add on a modem (for $0 when you stay connected over 36 months) or BYO modem. You can also add on a call pack, and Optus also offers customers the option to bundle a range of subscription services via Optus SubHub.

Optus NBN bundle plans

If you want a little more from your Optus NBN than just internet, there is a bundle plan with a little bit extra, which is designed with families in mind. The Optus Plus Family Entertainer plan has all the same inclusions as the Internet Everyday plan, but includes an Ultra WiFi Booster and Optus WiFi Secure. A standard Netflix subscription is also included for new and existing Netflix customers, which you can activate through Optus SubHub.

Optus NBN plans prices

The prices you’ll pay for Optus NBN plans depends on whether you choose the more basic internet-only plan type or the entertainment plan, along with which speed tier you choose and any additional extras you might add on, such as call packs. Optus NBN plans prices start from around $70 per month and go up to around $150. Keep in mind that NBN wholesale prices can change and Optus may adjust its NBN plan prices accordingly.

Optus NBN deals

If you’re looking to save on your NBN plan fees, Optus offers deals or discounts on NBN plans from time to time. You might want to keep an eye out to see what’s on offer to save on your plan fees when signing up.

Optus NBN speeds

Optus NBN plans are available with almost all of the NBN speed tiers, with NBN 12 and NBN 100/40 the only speed tiers missing. The Everyday internet plan is available with NBN 25, NBN 50, NBN 100, NBN 250 and NBN 1000 speed tiers, while the Entertainer plan is available across NBN 50, NBN 100, NBN 250 and NBN 1000 speed tiers.

Like other NBN providers, Optus lists a typical evening speed for its NBN plans, which gives customers an idea of what NBN speeds they can expect on their plan during the busy evening peak period between 7pm and 11pm. You can read our guide on typical evening speeds to find out more about Optus NBN speeds.

Optus call rates and call packs

If you want a home phone with your Optus NBN service, you can add a call pack to your NBN plan for an additional $10 per month or $15 per month for an international call pack.

FAQs about Optus NBN plans

Optus is one of the largest and most well-known telcos in Australia, and while it might be better known for mobile phone plans, it’s also one of the biggest players in the NBN space. According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) May 2024 NBN wholesale market share report, Optus is the third-largest NBN provider with a 12.6% NBN market share.

If you’re having problems with your Optus NBN plan, whether it’s an NBN outage or you just need some help, Optus has several contact options for customer support:

  • Optus technical and customer service number: 133 937 (available Mon-Sun from 9am to 6pm caller’s local time)
  • Optus 24/7 live message support on the website and through the My Optus app
  • FAQ page addressing a range of questions, troubleshooting and issues

If you choose to add a modem on to your Optus NBN plan, you can get the modem for $0 when you stay connected for 36 months. If you cancel your plan before those 36 months, you’ll need to pay off the remaining cost of the modem.

In addition to NBN plans from Optus, Optus also offers 4G and 5G home wireless internet plans, along with mobile broadband plans, which use the Optus 4G and 5G mobile networks.

Important information

For those that love the detail

This advice is general and has not taken into account your objectives, financial situation or needs. Consider whether this advice is right for you.

Canstar Blue may earn a fee from its Online Partners for referrals from its website tables, and from sponsorship or promotion of certain products. Fees payable by product providers for referrals and sponsorship or promotion may vary between providers, website position, and revenue model. Sponsorship/promotion fees may be higher than referral fees. If a product is sponsored or promoted, it’s an ad and it is clearly marked as such. An ad might appear in different places on our website, such as in comparison tables and articles. Ads may be displayed in a fixed position in a table, regardless of the product's rating, price or other attributes. The location of an ad doesn’t indicate any ranking or rating by Canstar Blue. Payment of fees for ads does not influence Value Rank or Customer Satisfaction Ratings. See How We Get Paid to find out more.

NBN Value Rank & Sort Order

The data in the table is updated within 24 hours of Canstar Blue becoming aware of a change. You can find a description of the initial sort order below the table. You can use the sort buttons at the top of each column to re-order the display. Learn more about our NBN Value Rank Methodology

Please note that the Customer Satisfaction rating displayed in the table is a rating relating to customer overall satisfaction with the brand, and should not be confused with an individual product rating. Learn more about NBN Customer Satisfaction ratings and for more information on how the Customer Satisfaction ratings are calculated, read the Canstar Blue Customer Satisfaction Ratings Methodology.

The ratings shown are only one factor to take into account when considering products. The results do not include all NBN retailers or products in the market, and may not compare all features relevant to you. Canstar Blue does not supply internet services. If you decide to apply for a particular NBN plan, you will deal directly with the NBN retailer, and not with Canstar Blue. Fees, charges, product information and contract terms should be confirmed directly with the relevant NBN retailer. The NBN plans listed are suitable for Fixed Line connections for residential purposes.

NBN Speed Tiers

The speed associated with a speed tier is the typical evening download speed of the plan. These tiers are based on a range of usage scenarios set out by NBN Co. Internet speeds on the NBN network are influenced by factors like access technology, equipment quality, chosen plan, and network design. Speeds may fluctuate during busy periods and depend on the number of users online simultaneously, as well as your NBN access technology. Check with a retailer before purchasing a product to see what speed you will likely receive at your address.

Typical Evening Speed

The typical evening speed of personal household plans can also be known as typical busy period speed. Typical busy period speeds are the download/upload speeds the plan typically delivers between 7pm and 11pm each day (the busy period). The method for measuring and verifying the typical busy period speed may differ between retailers, however all retailers must conform to an ACCC legislated base case. The typical evening speed for each product is displayed in accordance with the product information developed by the retailer. The accuracy of the speed information should be confirmed with the relevant NBN retailer.

When 'TBC' is displayed this means that the provider is currently unable to provide typical evening speed estimates because sufficient data is not yet available.
The ACCC monitors the performance of internet providers. You can read more here. The speeds you experience may be lower than the advertised typical evening speed depending on factors such as your in-home set up and wiring.

Unlimited Data

Where 'unlimited' is used in relation to Data available on a plan it is likely to be subject to a fair use policy. Please confirm any terms of a fair use policy with your selected provider before making a purchase decision.
