Amaysim unveils upcoming NBN plan prices: How do they compare?

Six years after shutting down its first foray into NBN, Amaysim is finally getting back on the home internet horse. The popular prepaid telco has confirmed pricing for its upcoming NBN plan range, which will be available to Aussies in the coming months.

Amaysim is set to offer four unlimited data NBN options at launch, covering speed tiers from standard NBN 25 through to super-fast NBN 250. And in good news for existing Amaysim customers, bundling mobile and internet can earn you a sweet ongoing discount.

Vir Inder Nath, Vice President of Amaysim, said the company was excited to make the jump back into home internet.

“Our new NBN home internet plans reflect our commitment to providing affordable, high-quality internet that meets the needs of Australian households.

“It’s no surprise that nine in 10 Amaysim customers would recommend Amaysim to their friends or family, which is exactly why we want our customers to try us, test us, stay with us, and then tell their friends about us. ”

How much are Amaysim’s NBN plans?

Amaysim’s NBN pricing will begin at $70 per month for download speeds of up to 25Mbps (megabits per second). However, new customers can claim a $10 monthly discount for their first six months.

This $10 discount will also be offered ongoing to customers who have an active Amaysim mobile plan. The table below shows Amaysim’s NBN plans, including the typical speeds during peak evening hours (between 7pm and 11pm) and standard and discount prices.

Plan name Typical evening download speed Standard price Introductory price/Price for Amaysim mobile customers
Quick As 25Mbps $70 per month $60 per month for six months
Speedy As 50Mbps $85 per month $75 per month for six months
Fast As 100Mbps $90 per month $80 per month for six months
Superfast As 240Mbps $100 per month $90 per month for six months

Amaysim’s plans also feature no lock-in contracts, and the option to BYO your own compatible modem. The telco is offering sign ups a 30-day NBN satisfaction guarantee, so customers can claim a full refund for their first month’s plan costs if they’re unhappy with their Amaysim service.

Amaysim hasn’t confirmed a full market launch date for its NBN service, but current Amaysim mobile customers may be able to score early access. Selected customers will soon be invited to test Amaysim NBN and deliver feedback through surveys and interviews, and may be eligible for three months of free plan fees as a thank you. Amaysim is opening this opportunity until August 8, or for the first 500 invited customers who sign up.

If you’re considering bundling Amaysim NBN and mobile, the telco has a competitive range of prepaid plans available right now. You can compare what’s on offer in the table below.

How do Amaysim’s NBN plans compare?

These are the first NBN plans Amaysim has offered since 2018, when it closed its previous NBN service and moved all home internet customers to Southern Phone. This time around, Amaysim is pushing the ‘value for money’ aspect of its plans — but how do prices actually compare to other cheap NBN providers?

Amaysim’s cheapest plan is $70 per month for 25Mbps speeds. The cheapest standard NBN 25 price on Canstar Blue’s database is currently $57.90 per month from Flip, although new customers will pay just $39 per month for their first six months. Generally, NBN providers tend to charge between $60-$70 per month for this speed tier, but Amaysim’s $10 discount places it at the lower end of the market.

The popular NBN 50 speed tier is usually priced around $70 -$105 monthly, while NBN 100 tends to fall between $80-$110. Amaysim’s discounted prices for these speeds are competitive, but customers can find cheaper options from more no-frills providers, including Flip, Tangerine and Kogan Internet.

Another new NBN provider, the Aussie Broadband-backed Buddy Telco, is offering NBN 50 for $75 per month, as well as lightning-fast NBN 1000 for $99 monthly. Buddy’s NBN 1000 plan offers faster speeds than Amaysim’s NBN 250 ‘Superfast As’ plan, at a near-identical price — $99 per month, to Amaysim’s $100 per month.

Amaysim’s NBN plans are definitely cheaper than what’s currently offered by big-name providers such as Telstra, Optus and Aussie Broadband — especially as all of these telcos increased prices on selected NBN plans in the past few weeks. Telstra’s NBN 50 plan is now $105 per month — a $5 increase — while both Optus and Aussie Broadband’s NBN 50 plans have increased by $4, to $89 per month.

Amaysim isn’t the only budget-friendly prepaid provider making a move into NBN. Boost Mobile confirmed in March that home broadband plans are on the way, although an official launch date hasn’t been disclosed. Boost’s NBN pricing is also still a mystery, but the brand is promising ‘elevated’ customer service and value for money.

For now, trying out Amaysim and taking advantage of the six-month price cut could be an easy bill-trimming move for customers on pricier plans, while the 30-day guarantee and option to bring your own modem makes it a fairly risk-free move.

If you’re already using Amaysim for your mobile service, you may also be swayed by the ongoing $10 discount, and the convenience of having both phone and internet with the same provider. Customer or not, you can register your interest on Amaysim’s website now, so you’ll be the first to know when Amaysim NBN is live.
