What is AGL Peak Energy Rewards?
AGL’s Peak Energy Rewards is a free program for AGL customers that rewards you for making reductions in your energy usage during one- to three- hour peak events when the grid is under more pressure than usual. This program is different to AGL Rewards, which offers customers discounts on eGift cards for supermarkets, cinemas, restaurants and more.
For its Peak Energy Rewards program, AGL sets a personalised energy reduction goal for you in kilowatts (kWh) using data from your energy usage during previous similar weather conditions. If you reach the goal set by AGL, you’ll be rewarded with a $5 – $10 credit on your electricity bill.

How does AGL Peak Energy Rewards work?
AGL monitors the grid and when a peak event is expected, meaning when the demand for electricity is expected to be greater than what the grid can deliver, it will notify you between one to 24 hours beforehand by text message with an offer to reduce your energy usage to score a credit on your bill. Once you have replied to opt-in, AGL will send you your personalised energy reduction target in kilowatts (kWh). Peak events can run at any time between 10am and 10pm on weekdays, so be sure to keep an eye on your notifications.
You may be aware of the appliances that cost more to run such as air conditioners, clothes dryers and washing machines, but there are many other ways to reduce your energy consumption at home apart without compromising your comfort. You can opt to use cold water settings on your appliances, switch off anything that you’re not using and compare energy plans to make sure you’re getting a low usage rate and supply cost.
For those with a solar battery, AGL may ask you to export your excess solar energy to the grid instead of storing it. If you don’t have a battery, your excess solar energy will automatically be exported to the grid.
If you reach the target AGL has set for you in a designated peak period, you can be rewarded with $5 for a one-hour peak event and $10 for a two- to three-hour peak event. Within a week following the peak period, AGL will contact you to let you know if you have earned a credit on your bill for reducing your energy consumption.
