Movie marathoners and penny pinchers unite! AGL is offering you the chance to bundle the cost of your home power bill and Netflix streaming.
The utilities powerhouse has launched its AGL Netflix plan to Aussie households, which sees customers accessing Netflix Standard with ads as part of their electricity plan.
What is the AGL Netflix plan?
The AGL Netflix Plan is a no lock-in, variable rate offer available to eligible households across New South Wales, Victoria, south-east Queensland and South Australia. It is open to both new and existing AGL and Netflix customers.
The cost of the streaming service is included in the electricity rates of the plan and according to AGL, this equates to about $96 RRP of Netflix value each year.
For customers looking for ad-free streaming, additional Netflix tiers are available for sign-up; however, these will add extra costs to your plan:
- Netflix Standard: $11 extra
- Netflix Premium: $18
A solar feed-in tariff of 5c/kWh in NSW, 3.3c/kWh in VIC and 4c/kWh in QLD and SA are also included in the plan’s benefits.
Please note that:
- Customers will need to agree to e-billing to be eligible for this offer.
- Netflix costs are calculated on a pro-rata basis, so month-on-month costs may vary.

How do I sign up for the AGL Netflix Plan?
- To access Netflix through your AGL plan, you’ll first need to sign up for the AGL Netflix plan in your area.
- Once you have signed up, you’ll need to wait for your connection date to receive confirmation of your Netflix subscription via email with the steps listed to activate your Netflix account.
If you are an existing Netflix customer, signing up through AGL’s activation/confirmation email should pause your current subscription and prevent you from being billed twice. The AGL Netflix plan is an ongoing contract so once connected, you shouldn’t be required to renew your Netflix account or electricity plan with AGL.

Is the AGL Netflix plan worth it?
While a bundled Netflix discount is tempting, it’s important to review the AGL Netflix plan carefully.
Firstly, consider if the streaming service is a bonus that you need or want. If you’re not remotely interested in the shows advertised on Netflix, then you may be caught up paying for a service you don’t intend to use.
But, if you enjoy streaming new shows or you’re already an active Netflix user, then the AGL Netflix plan could suit your lifestyle.
It is important, however, to actively compare other electricity plans in your neighborhood. For instance, signing up for a competing plan and a Netflix subscription separately could end up being cheaper than AGL’s Netflix electricity plan.
