Nectr wins Canstar Blue Green Excellence Award
Arguably leading the charge is eco-friendly provider, Nectr, which has received one of Canstar Blue’s Green Excellence Awards for its 100% Clean energy offering. Nectr swept this year’s judging panel away with its impressive commitment and investment in cleaner energy options for Australians.
What is Nectr 100% Clean?
Since September 2021, Nectr 100% Clean has offered customers in New South Wales, south-east Queensland and South Australia the choice of greener power at an affordable price. Its 100% Clean plan includes an opt-in product that’s certified Climate Active Carbon Neutral. Nectr achieves this by buying carbon offset certificates/units from both local and international projects. This means customers on this offer have access to carbon neutral electricity usage.
“Nectr entered the energy industry with a mission to clean up energy to make it better for everyone. We challenge other retailers to offer 100% carbon neutral plans like we do because we unashamedly want to support a clean energy future for our customers and our country,” said Andrew Butler, Nectr Managing Director.
Nectr’s 100% Clean plan is available in NSW, QLD, SA and the ACT. Nectr also offers a dedicated GreenPower plan as well as deals for solar customers that come with a boosted feed-in tariff rate, depending on location.
Why do we like Nectr 100% Clean?
Affordability has long been an obstacle when accessing greener energy products in Australia. But thanks to Nectr and its commitment to ‘driving sustainable change’, bill-payers can now kick-start their sustainability goals without paying too much.
“Most power companies offer clean energy initiatives; however, it usually comes at an additional cost to the consumer, which is a roadblock for many wanting to do their bit for the environment,” said Canstar Blue’s Energy Editor, Jared Mullane.
“As one of the only providers to offer exclusively green or carbon neutral power plans, Nectr shows it is devoted to driving sustainable outcomes by making its products easily accessible to bill-payers. Incorporating the costs of offsetting carbon emissions generated from customers’ electricity usage into its product pricing is a huge drawcard for eco-conscious Aussies, and given that Nectr’s prices are generally competitive, it makes their product offerings all that sweeter.”
Additionally, the retailer’s contributions to the development of renewable energy generation assets has also impressed Canstar Blue’s judging panel. Currently on the cards are two utility-scale solar farms in NSW, which is anticipated to generate enough electricity for more than 60,000 households. These projects are part of a $240 million investment by Nectr, with the largest of the two projects also within the top 10 operating solar farms by size with approval for utility-scale battery energy storage systems in Australia.
“As one of the only providers to offer exclusively green or carbon neutral power plans, Nectr shows it is devoted to driving sustainable outcomes by making its products easily accessible to bill-payers.”
Nectr has also invested in projects that reduce or remove emissions from the atmosphere. Some of the listed projects include:
- Wind Power Project in Gujarat, India
- India: Hydropower Project in Himachal Pradesh
- Cerro de Hula Wind Project, Honduras
- Enercon Wind Farms in Karnataka, India
- Dereli Hydroelectric Power Plant, Turkey
Nectr is the Australian retail energy brand for Hanwha Energy Australia, which is owned by South Korean, multi-billion-dollar solar manufacturer Hanwha Group. It first launched in the Aussie energy retail market in 2019.
