Fisher & Paykel Dishwashers Review
Beginning as a refrigerator importer in New Zealand in 1934, Fisher & Paykel has grown into a major player in the household appliances industry in its homeland, as well as in Australia. The brand declares itself to hold a ‘pioneering spirit’ and ‘culture of curiosity’ to design functional and sustainable products for homes in over 80 countries.
Fisher & Paykel’s DishDrawer range of dishwashers is the brand’s flagship product in this category. Read on to find out more about Fisher & Paykel’s dishwashers and whether they could be the next new dishwasher for your kitchen in this Canstar Blue review.
What makes Fisher & Paykel dishwashers stand out?
Fisher & Paykel produces two kinds of dishwashers – traditional dishwashers and the ‘DishDrawer’ range, with the dishwasher built as a drawer rather than as an appliance with a hinged door and slide-out dish racks. The DishDrawer line is particularly notable, as it’s a fairly uncommon design despite having some serious perks. It takes up less space, which is great for small kitchens, and is about a half-load size, so you can run it more regularly and do away with owning stacks of plates to get you through the week.
The entire Fisher & Paykel line is broadly quite user-friendly, but with just a handful of particularly stand-out features. Some models come with a wireless remote, while many come with a knife clip and multipurpose clip to keep knives and other utensils securely in place during the wash cycle.

DishDrawers by Fisher & Paykel
Drawer-style dishwashers are useful for when you frequently run small loads, or just want to wash dishes more frequently. They’re a popular choice for offices and small kitchens. The Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer range is claimed to be more ergonomic compared to the conventional dishwasher. These dishwashers also use Fisher & Paykel’s ‘SmartDrive’ technology, which involves using a brushless DC motor as both a wash and drain pump. This means fewer moving parts, which according to Fisher & Paykel means a more reliable motor.
While there are a number of different DishDrawer designs, all models include the following features:
- Child lock
- Electronic fault/diagnostic indicator
- End of cycle beeps
- Energy saving delay start option up to 12 hours
- Rinse aid indicator light
- Fan assisted drying
- 2 cutlery baskets
- Foldable and height adjustable cup racks
- Fold down and pitch adjustable tines
Single DishDrawer Dishwashers
A single DishDrawer can be installed at any height for maximum convenience and less bending to load the dishwasher. These are useful for people who just don’t need the capacity of a full-sized dishwasher and would rather have the saved kitchen space.

Double DishDrawer Dishwashers
These DishDrawers come as a set of two drawers stacked on top of each other. While combined they have the same capacity of one traditional dishwasher, having two smaller independent dishwashers has a couple of upsides. Users can run a wash cycle in one drawer while in the meantime being able to neatly stack dishes into the second, rather than creating a messy pile in the sink or on the countertop. It also allows different types of wash cycles to run simultaneously, for example, a quick eco load to wash cups and mugs in one drawer while a longer more intensive mode to scrub pots and pans in the other.

Should I choose a Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher?
As a long-standing brand of reliable household appliances, Fisher & Paykel offers a relatively broad range of mid to high end dishwashers. The biggest drawcard to the Fisher & Paykel brand is the DishDrawer range. Most dishwasher brands don’t produce drawer-style dishwashers like this, so Fisher & Paykel is the leader for this niche design. Its traditional dishwasher range is more limited, so you may want to compare the Fisher & Paykel offerings to other brands to decide if they are the best dishwasher choice for you.
