Review of Electrolux ovens

Electrolux is a global leader in home appliances, selling more than 60 million products to customers around the world every year. Its range of dishwashers, refrigerators and washing machines are certainly amongst some of the best around. However, this review will focus on the wide range of ovens available from Electrolux, to determine what kinds of features they come equipped with and whether they represent good value for money.

What ovens does Electrolux offer?

Electrolux’s range of ovens consists of more than 20 different models, the majority of which are built-in ovens and occupy one of these three sub-sections:

  1. Single pyrolytic ovens
  2. Double ovens
  3. Steam ovens

For each of these different types, we will review the features of every oven and present this information in a table sorted by price.

Single pyrolytic ovens

Electrolux’s pyrolytic ovens range is fairly concise with four models on offer (plus one double model). Pyrolytic ovens are a type of oven that comes with a self-cleaning mechanism, usually by reaching extremely high temperatures which turns leftover food into ash. These types of ovens are becoming more and more popular since they can save their owners a lot of effort and can maintain the longevity of the oven.

Electrolux’s pyrolytic ovens come with the following features:

  • Cool touch door: adds safety and confidence to the kitchen through an innovative door cooling system with multiple glazed door panels.
  • Full Flex telescopic runners: give you safe, easy access to all areas of the oven.
  • Intuitive Oven Interface (IOI): elegant full-colour displays, temperature, and function feedback to easily program your oven.
  • Smart food probe: measures the core temperature of the oven and switches it off when it’s ready.
  • 80L+ capacity.
  • Rotary Knobs: make it easy to control heat.
  • Soft-close door: reduces the noise when opening and closing the oven.
  • Twin fan system: fans rotate in opposite directions, distributing heat evenly throughout the oven.
  • Split grill system.

All of Electrolux’s pyrolytic ovens come with the self-cleaning function. It has five different models in this category. Note that for some models, prices weren’t available on the Electrolux website.

Are Electrolux pyrolytic ovens worth it?

Electrolux pyrolytic ovens

A lot of people may struggle to see fantastic value in Electrolux’s pyrolytic ovens. Its cheapest oven in this category is over $3,000, which is more than the cheapest options available from other brands on the market. On top of this, the lower-end models have a lack of innovative features to potentially set them apart from their competitors. Features such as cool touch doors and food probes are already in place in oven brands like Bosch and Blanco, who offer similar ovens for cheaper. The only Electrolux ovens in this field that have a large number of features cost roughly $4,000 to $5,000. This is quite an expensive outlay.

One advantage that Electrolux pyrolytic ovens do have, however, is their size. Although this may not be an advantage to you depending on how much room you have, all of its pyrolytic models have a capacity of 80 Litres or more, while some of the pyrolytic ovens are also double ovens (more on this later). The more expensive models can hold as much as 125 litres! So convenience is definitely the biggest selling point, so if you’re someone who needs to cook for a large number of people regularly, then an Electrolux pyrolytic oven could be the way to go. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to look to other providers.

Double & duo ovens

Double ovens allow for the cooking of multiple dishes at the same time, due to having two separate compartments. They’re great for people who love to entertain guests, and they can come in a huge variety of styles. Electrolux has four different double ovens at its disposal, and they have the same features as pyrolytic ovens.

Are Electrolux double & duo ovens worth it?

Electrolux double & duo ovens

The double ovens do a little better than their pyrolytic counterparts, as they are more or less around the average price for double ovens on the market. Electrolux’s double ovens have the advantage of containing similar amounts of extra functions that single ovens do. A lot of double oven providers – such as those from Bosch – fail to do the same, which gives Electrolux a slight edge in this field. Its double ovens are still expensive, so you probably shouldn’t consider buying one unless you need to prepare large amounts of food regularly. If you fit into this demographic, then Electrolux double ovens represent good value for money.

Steam ovens

Steam ovens can be used to cook delicious foods which are arguably healthier and more nutritious. Cooking with steam ensures that the food’s moisture remains inside, so it doesn’t dry out. According to its website and Appliances Online, Electrolux has three different models of steam ovens that you can purchase. In addition to some of the features of pyrolytic and double ovens, steam ovens can also include:

  • Healthy steam cooking.
  • Pre-defined programs: make cooking easier by featuring an array of in-built conditions depending on what you’re cooking.
  • Fast heat-up option: saves time pre-heating the oven.
  • Favourites program: program your favourite meals in to cook them at the touch of a button.

Are Electrolux steam ovens worth it?

electrolux oven-3

It can be quite tricky to determine the worth of steam ovens, since they aren’t usually suitable to replace conventional ovens. You should only buy a steam oven if you frequently cook steam foods, but some models allow you to both types of cooking. These are known as combination steam ovens, and the 678SC CombiSteam model will allow you to do this. At about $3,000, they are quite pricey but not unaffordable and given their relative lack of size, would be ideal for someone looking to feed a couple of people with both steam and conventional cooking.

The remaining two Electrolux steam ovens are more or less around the industry standard in terms of price. If you’re considering one of these, then you should take into account the level of convenience they offer, since steam ovens can be quite high maintenance. These two models come with a self-cleaning mechanism and pre-defined programs respectively, so they pass this test. Steam ovens aren’t that common in Australia, with the other major providers being Westinghouse, Samsung, and Smeg. It would be wise to compare Electrolux’s steam ovens to these brands, but overall, it looks like they are worth the money.
