It’s a must for any Marvel fan looking for something a little more festive to watch this Christmas.

Home Alone

It’s time to revisit Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), the nine-year-old who stole everyone’s hearts in the holiday classic, Home Alone. The 1990 movie follows Kevin as he tries to survive the holiday season, after accidentally getting left at home in Chicago when his family jets off to Paris for Christmas. Kevin, alone in his family home, is forced to go up against a pair of dim-witted burglars (Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci), while helping deliver a Christmas miracle to a misunderstood neighbour. Home Alone is a certified Christmas classic that has to be on your movie list this season.

Noelle

From Pitch Perfect to Noelle, Anna Kendrick sings a perfect tune in this new Disney+ Christmas flick. Wanting to follow in the footsteps of her father, Kris Kringle, Noelle (Kendrick) wishes she could do something important just like her brother Nick (Bill Hader). Noelle has to save Christmas and bring her brother back in this cheery Christmas film.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

Before there was the Grinch, the world had Ebenezer Scrooge. Rediscover the true meaning of Christmas by watching a unique take on the Charles Dickens’ classic tale in The Muppet Christmas Carol. Follow Scrooge on his journey as he transforms from a miserly character to a kind, sympathetic and affectionate man as a result of a few memorable visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, as well as Kermit the Frog of course.

Die Hard

Die Hard is an iconic film in its own right, never mind the Christmas element. In this movie John McClane (Bruce Willis), a New York City cop, must rescue his estranged wife from being held hostage at a Christmas party in Nakatomi Plaza. This is the movie that cemented Willis as a bonafide Hollywood star, so if you’re looking for a Christmas film packed with action and suspense, Die Hard is definitely for you.

Miracle on 34th Street (original and remake)

Is there a more quintessential Christmas classic than Miracle on 34th Street? Disney+ has both the original 1947 version, along with the 1994 remake, so you can watch your favourite iteration. The story centres around a man named Kris Kringle, who is hired to play Santa at the iconic Macy’s department store in New York City. Kris insists he is the real Santa, which leads to a court case set to determine his mental health and legitimacy. It’s an iconic holiday staple that can’t be missed this festive season.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas on Disney+ follows Jack Skellington, a man living in Halloween Town who becomes obsessed with the idea of Christmas. Things start to go awry when Jack’s obsession spirals out of control and he kidnaps Santa Claus, assuming the jovial role himself. This film, voiced by Danny Elfman and Catherine O’Hara, will certainly add some spookiness to your festive season.

The Santa Clause

The Santa Clause follows Scott (Tim Allen) – a divorced father who unwittingly agrees to become the next Santa Claus. After some bodily transformations, he’s forced to embrace his new festive role. Scott must now work hard to keep it a secret from his suspicious family. If you like this film, you should check out the sequels The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, which can also be found on Disney+.

While You Were Sleeping

The film follows Lucy, a transit worker who’s lonely at Christmas time. One day, her longtime crush, Peter, is mugged and pushed onto the train tracks. Lucy pulls him off the tracks and accompanies him to the hospital where Peter’s family mistake Lucy for his fiancé. Things soon become tricky when Lucy falls for Peter’s brother Jack. This Christmas romance, starring Sandra Bullock, Peter Gallagher and Bill Pullman is filled with twists and turns. It’s a perfect feel-good film to watch over the festive season.
