The Total Plan product is no longer available to new customers. Please treat the below information as historical only.
As it currently stands, this plan is working out to be one of EnergyAustralia’s cheapest, so it’s definitely worth talking about. That however begs the question, what do you need to know about this plan? Is price effectiveness its only redeeming quality, or is there more to it? Let’s find out.
What is EnergyAustralia’s Total Plan?
Total Plan is EnergyAustralia’s newest plan, bringing customers in NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and the ACT fixed rates and a guaranteed discount on, you guessed it, their ‘total’ bill. What this means is that the discount applies to both usage and supply charges, landing the plan at a sometimes generous amount off the Reference Price/VDO in each state.
This plan comes with a 12-month benefit period, meaning you’ll only receive the fixed rates and guaranteed discount for this timeframe – at which point it’ll be time to reassess the value of your plan and potentially make a switch. Like all EnergyAustralia plans, the Total Plan has no lock-in contract or exit fees.

Is EnergyAustralia’s Total Plan a lock-in contract?
The Total Plan by EnergyAustralia won’t lock you into any contracts. What this means is that if at any point you want to switch to a new plan or provider, then you’re free to go without having to break a contract and incur any fees. This has slowly become the norm for energy plans, but it’s still something to look out for.
Will EnergyAustralia’s Total Plan rates change?
The EnergyAustralia Total Plan is a fixed rate plan. What this means is that the rates you pay per kWh of energy won’t change for the duration of the benefit period, which in this case is 12 months. On top of that, your daily supply charge will be locked in for the same period of time.
This type of plan is suited to those who want a bit more bill stability, knowing exactly how much they’ll pay for energy usage and supply for a year. It doesn’t mean you’ll pay the same amount every billing period, but you’ll have a better idea of what you will be charged because your rates will remain consistent.
Is EnergyAustralia’s Total Plan available with solar?
If you’re a household with solar panels on the roof, you’ll naturally be looking for a plan that’s offering a decent feed-in tariff (FiT) so you can get a good return on your investment. You don’t, however, want to give up the opportunity for great, low rates in exchange for a higher feed-in tariff unless you’re sure that you’ll be exporting enough power into the grid to make up for the extra you’ll pay on your bill. EnergyAustralia’s Total Plan seems to provide the best of both worlds – reasonable rates and a slightly-higher-than-normal feed-in tariff, depending on what state you’re in.
- NSW: 7.6c/kWh
- VIC: 7.1c/kWh
- QLD: 6.6c/kWh
- SA: 8.5c/kWh
- ACT: 7.6c/kWh

Does EnergyAustralia’s Total Plan have GreenPower options?
On the Total Plan, you’ll have the option of paying a charge extra on your power bill to support renewable energy generation through the government accredited GreenPower program. You can choose to have 10%, 20% or 100% of your renewable energy generation offset through EnergyAustralia. Here’s how much that’ll cost you:
- 10%: $0.0495 x (10% x total usage)
- 20%: $0.0495 x (20% x total usage)
- 100%: $0.0495 x (100% x total usage)
On top of this, as with any EnergyAustralia plan, you’ll have the option to offset your energy usage by opting in to the retailer’s Go Neutral product, whereby EnergyAustralia purchases carbon offsets to the equivalent of your estimated electricity-related carbon emissions.
EnergyAustralia Total Plan Fees
As with pretty much any electricity plan on the market, you can expect to be hit with some fees in certain situations. Here are the major ones to look out for with the Total Plan Home.
- Connection fees
- Late payment fees
- Disconnection fees
- Reconnection fees
- Credit card fees
The good thing is that you won’t get a slap on the hand for exiting the plan early or receiving bills in the mail.

Is EnergyAustralia’s Total Plan right for me?
If you love a bit of stability in your life and don’t muck around with variable rates or conditional discounts when it comes to your power, the EnergyAustralia Total Plan could be right up your alley. This plan gives customers the peace of mind that their discount and rates aren’t going to move for the duration of the benefit period, regardless of their payment preferences.
However, fixed rates and unconditional discounts aren’t the only things that make an energy plan the right fit for you.
