How to speed test SpinTel internet
To test your SpinTel internet speeds, using the speed test tool above, simply click ‘Go’ and wait for the tool to show your speed test results.
As well as being a SpinTel speed test tool, this is the same free speed test tool that can also be used to test a wide range of internet plans from other providers.
What can impact your SpinTel speed test results?
While your SpinTel internet speed test should give you a good idea of how your internet plan is performing, the results might be impacted by a range of factors. Using a VPN can slow down your speeds, as can using old technology (like an old modem), your internet type and connection, along with the time of day that you’re testing your internet speeds.
What do my SpinTel speed test results mean?
Your SpinTel speed test results will show you a few different numbers which cover your download speeds, upload speeds and ping. Some of these results might be more important to you than others, depending on what you use your internet speed for, but it provides an overall picture on how your plan is performing.
Download speeds related to information that you download or receive. This includes streaming video and music, browsing websites, scrolling social media, downloading files and online gaming.
Upload speeds are especially important if you tend to upload a lot of files to cloud storage or social media, or if you make a lot of video calls. If you regularly work from home, you might find a good upload speed is essential for smooth video calls and meetings.
Ping (and latency) measures the time that it takes in milliseconds between when you perform an action, and when that information reaches its destination. The lower the ping number, the quicker that information is being sent. A good ping result is especially important for online gaming when smooth gameplay relies on quick response times.
To fully understand your SpinTel internet speed test results and know whether your internet is performing as it should, you’ll need to know what speeds your SpinTel internet plan is capable of reaching. Slower speeds than what your plan should be reaching could indicate a problem with your service.

SpinTel NBN speeds
When you run your SpinTel speed test, you’ll need to know which NBN speed tier you have in order to see if your plan is performing optimally. Here are the speed tiers that SpinTel offers:
- NBN 25: 25Mbps download speeds, 10Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 50: 50Mbps download speeds, 20Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 100/20: 100Mbps download speeds, 20Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 250: 250Mbps download speeds, 25Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 1000: 1000Mbps download speeds, 50Mbps upload speeds
While each of these plans are technically capable of reaching the maximum speeds listed above, they may not always perform to this standard. This tends to be the case for the faster plans, especially NBN 1000 which typically doesn’t reach the maximum download speed.
Network congestion, especially during the busy evening peak between 7pm and 11pm, can slow down your service. This is why NBN providers are required to list a typical evening speed for each plan, so customers have an idea of how it should be performing during the busy evening peak. It’s also a good idea to run your SpinTel speed test at different times of the day to see if congestion is a factor in the results.
