iiNet speed test
How to speed test iiNet internet
Running an iiNet speed test is very straightforward. Simply use the speed test tool above, click ‘Go’ and wait for your speed test results to come through.
In addition to running an internet speed test for iiNet plans, this is the same free speed test tool that can be used to test speeds across all internet types and internet providers.
What can impact your iiNet speed test?
The results from your iiNet speed test might not give you a full picture of how your iiNet internet plan is performing. Several factors, such as using an old modem or the time of day you’re testing your speed, can impact your internet performance and therefore, your speed test results.
What do my iiNet internet speed test results mean?
When you speed test your iiNet internet, you’ll see results for download speeds, upload speeds and ping. Some of these results may be more important than others, depending on what you mostly use your internet for.
Download speeds are going to be the most important speed test result for most of us. The majority of online activities, such as browsing the web and social media, streaming videos and music, as well as online gaming — especially for downloading large game files — rely on download speeds.
Upload speeds, while still important, are related to information you are sending out. This includes uploading large documents to cloud storage and posting content on social media. If you work from home frequently, video calling also relies on good upload speeds.
Your ping result (which also relates to latency) indicates the time that it takes, measured in milliseconds, between when you perform an action and when that information reaches its destination. A lower number shows a shorter response time, so a good ping result will be especially important for activities like online gaming, when smooth gameplay relies on a quick response time.

iiNet NBN speeds
Before you run an iiNet NBN speed test, it’s good to know which iiNet NBN plan you’re on, and therefore, which speeds your plan is capable of. This will then give you something to measure your speed test results against to understand if your plan is performing as it should.
iiNet offers a wide range of plans across most NBN speed tiers:
- NBN 12: 12Mbps download speeds, 1Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 25: 25Mbps download speeds, 5Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 50: 50Mbps download speeds, 20Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 100/20: 100Mbps download speeds, 20Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 250: 250Mbps download speeds, 25Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 1000: 1000Mbps download speeds, 50Mbps upload speeds
When you know which speed tier you have, you can compare your iiNet speed test results to the speeds listed above to see how well your plan is performing. Keep in mind that plans don’t always reach the maximum potential speed, especially on the Ultrafast NBN 1000 speed tier. While these plans are technically capable of reaching 1Gbps/1000Mbps speeds, plans from most providers won’t reach this maximum speed. Typically, speeds on this tier reach around 700Mbps-900Mbps, even in off-peak periods.
Technically, all plans are capable of reaching the maximum potential speeds. However, network congestion can really slow things down, especially during the busy evening peak between 7pm and 11pm. For this reason, NBN providers are required to list the typical evening speed alongside their NBN plans. This indicates the speed you can expect during the busy evening peak; however, outside this time your plan may reach faster speeds.
In order to get a clear picture of how your iiNet NBN plan is performing, it’s a good idea to run your iiNet NBN speed test at different times of the day. You may find it’s slower during the evening but performing as it should during the day.

iiNet NBN typical evening speeds
Like other NBN providers, iiNet lists the expected typical evening speed alongside its range of NBN plans. However, these speeds can change every few months or so. Here are the latest typical evening speeds you can expect on iiNet’s NBN plans:
- NBN 12: 12Mbps download speeds, 0.8Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 25: 25Mbps download speeds, 4Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 50: 50Mbps download speeds, 17Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 100/20: 100Mbps download speeds, 17Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 250: 250Mbps download speeds, 21Mbps upload speeds
- NBN 1000: 800Mbps download speeds, 40Mbps upload speeds

Running your iiNet speed test during the busy evening peak should show results similar to those listed above. However, if your plan is way off from achieving these speeds, you may have an issue with your iiNet NBN service. You may need to investigate your slow internet speeds further, which could include troubleshooting.
Other iiNet internet speeds
In addition to its NBN plans, iiNet offers a wide range of other internet options. These include other fibre plans along with 4G and 5G home wireless broadband plans.
iiNet’s standard 4G home wireless broadband plan lists typical evening speeds of 16Mbps download and 1.9Mbps upload speeds. Its 5G home broadband plans are only available with speed caps, with no uncapped speed plan offered. You’ll have the choice between 50Mbps capped download speeds with 16Mbps upload speeds, or 100Mbps download speeds with 18Mbps upload speeds.
When you run an iiNet speed test on your home wireless plan, keep in mind these speeds can vary from time to time. Expected speeds can be impacted by a range of factors, including network coverage and proximity to the cellular tower.
