The cost of living is causing many Australians to tighten their belts and find savings where they can. But while shopping around for discounts and cutting back on big-ticket items is a common way to save, reducing your spending on essentials, such as groceries, isn’t always possible. Thankfully, there are ways to make your money stretch a little further with rewards programs, such as, Everyday Rewards and Flybuys.
A 2024 report by the Australian Loyalty Association (ALA) found 93% of Aussie retail shoppers are members of a rewards program they can use at a supermarket, namely Flybuys and Everyday Rewards.
But while most Australians have a rewards card in their wallet, not all are taking full advantage of the points system and special offers available to boost their balance and get cash back.
In this Canstar Blue guide, we look at how you can maximise your Flybuys and Everyday Rewards points and boost your savings at the checkout.
1. Align your shopping habits with points partners
Flybuys and Everyday Rewards are the most popular supermarket rewards programs in Australia, according to ALA data. Flybuys is partnered with Coles, while Everyday Rewards is operated by Woolworths.
The programs have a similar structure in that customers swipe their card at the supermarket checkout and receive one point per dollar spent. In addition to this, each program is partnered with other brands that allow you to collect points when you shop, whether it be at Big W, Bupa, Bunnings, or one of many other big-brand names.
Whether you’re using Flybuys or Everyday Rewards, aligning your shopping habits with a brand partner is the fastest way to increase your points and earn cash rewards. That being said, this doesn’t mean you should make purchases you don’t need just so you can collect points. In most cases, the financial benefit is only there if you’re buying something regardless of the points.
Where to collect Flybuys points
Flybuys partners with 23 brands in the health insurance, retail, energy, travel and hotel sectors, meaning there are plenty of places you can use your Flybuys card and top up your points balance.
If you’re shopping online, create a customer account with the brand you’re purchasing from and link your Flybuys card to receive points on your transaction just like you would if you were swiping in store.

Where to collect Everyday Rewards points
Everyday Rewards, previously known as Woolworths Rewards, is the most popular loyalty program in Australia. It has 13 brand partners, including Bupa, Origin Energy, Qantas, BWS and more. As with Flybuys, you can link your Everyday Rewards card to your customer account with the brand you’re shopping with and automatically get points added to your balance.
Everyday Rewards also offers weekly points boosters via its app. You can double your points on groceries at Woolies, or earn extra points at Big W, Everyday Market and other brand partners, depending what’s on offer that week, which all goes towards earning you cash faster.
The program also offers big-points deals for new customers with Origin Energy and Bupa. At the time of writing, customers who join Bupa can collect up to 150,000 points when they sign up, while those who switch to Origin Energy can score up to 5,000 points.

You can also choose to automatically convert your Rewards points into Qantas Frequent Flyer points, or save your points to spend during the festive season with the Bank for Christmas feature.
2. Track new offers to maximise your points
Both Flybuys and Everyday Rewards have exclusive points offers that change regularly, often weekly. For example, Flybuys might run a deal one week that gives Coles shoppers 20x points on fresh produce, but could switch to a spend-and-get offer the next week that gives shoppers 1,000 bonus points when they spend $50 at the supermarket.
Likewise, Everyday Rewards runs similar offers where Woolies shoppers can multiply their points or earn bonus points based on minimum spend in store or with one of its brand partners.
The key is to activate the offers before you shop. You can do this via the Flybuys or Everyday Rewards app, or when you log into your account online. If you’re using the apps, you’ll be able to easily track your points, activate offers and see what deals are available week by week, plus you can link your card to the app to scan at the checkout instead of using your physical card.
3. Collect points retroactively
There’s no reason to miss out on points just because you forgot to scan your card or left it at home. Both Flybuys and Everyday Rewards allow customers to add points to their cards at a later date. This is especially useful if you missed out on a bulk-points offer when signing up to a new telco, energy provider or health fund, which often partner with rewards programs to offer sizable bonus points to new customers.
Flybuys customers can claim points simply by contacting the Flybuys customer service team and providing them with a copy of the receipt from the relevant partner retailer. They’ll retroactively add the points to your account for you.
If you’re an Everyday Rewards customer and you forgot to scan your card at the checkout, you can use the virtual assistant in the app to add the missed points to your account. As with Flybuys, you’ll need a copy of your receipt so your purchase can be verified.
Whether you’re a Flybuys or Everyday Rewards customer, or a member of both programs, using these tips to maximise your points balance can help you save more at the checkout and reduce the burden on your bank balance.
