GloBird Energy launches pecking good solar deal in QLD

Aussie-owned provider GloBird Energy is now offering households with solar panels in the Sunshine State the chance to save big on their exports, thanks to its sizzling new solar electricity plan.

The retailer’s Solar Plus plan is now available to customers in south-east Queensland, and comes with a boosted solar feed-in tariff of 11 cents per kilowatt hour (c/kWh) for the first 10kWh/day. After this point, it reverts back to a 4c/kWh tariff.

Solar Plus currently offers one of the most attractive solar feed-in tariffs available to households in the Sunshine State and dishes out double the amount awarded for exports on any of GloBird Energy’s other standard SEQ market offers.

In addition to boosted returns on their solar exports, households in SEQ are also eligible for a $50 bill credit with the Solar Plus plan, and a further 2% and 1% discount can also be achieved by paying on time and by direct debit respectively with GloBird Energy.

Solar Plus comes with variable rates on a no lock-in contract. There are no exit fees and monthly billing options are available.

A variation of this plan is also available in New South Wales, however feed-in tariffs may differ between the states.

Eligibility criteria may apply so it is best to visit the GloBird Energy website for the full terms and conditions before making a purchase decision.

Is GloBird Energy’s Solar Plus a good deal?

While an 11c/kWh feed-in tariff could be quite attractive to households in the Sunshine State, it is important to consider a few factors first before making a purchase decision.

For a start, this boosted feed-in tariff is only applicable for the first 10kWh that are exported each day. After this point the feed-in tariff reverts to a much lower 4c/kWh – even lower than the amount offered on GloBird Energy’s standard offers in the state.

It should also be noted that this plan currently sits at 7% more than the Reference Price in SEQ, before accounting for conditional discounts. This means that households could be paying for much higher usage and supply rates than those offered on standard plans. While this may not necessarily be an issue for households who primarily use their solar energy, for those who still rely on additional energy from the grid this may begin to negate the positive impact of the higher solar feed-in tariff.

However, this does not mean the GloBird Energy Solar Plus plan is necessarily a bad deal. If you have an influx of solar energy to be sold to the grid, then Solar Plus could work for you, granted you aren’t exporting above the limit each day. But if you are still relying on grid energy, then it may be best to read over the energy fact sheet before signing on the dotted line, just to make sure the usage and supply rates still work in your favour.
