Momentum Energy spurs back into action with up to 15% price drop

After several months on the sidelines, Momentum Energy has spurred back into action, slashing prices by up to 15% on its flagship offer for households.

The Aussie-owned retailer has dropped the rates on its Nothing Fancy offer in New South Wales, Victoria, south-east Queensland and South Australia by between 5.90% and 15.07%, depending on location.

Momentum Energy’s biggest movements were recorded in SEQ and SA, with the retailer dropping prices by 15.06% and 15.07% respectively. Prior to this, Momentum Energy’s prices in these states were sitting significantly higher than average due to volatile wholesale market conditions, as observed in Canstar Blue’s historical price change report.

This recent price change however, has seen Momentum Energy reinstated as one of the cheapest providers for electricity, particularly for households in NSW and Victoria.

Nothing Fancy offers variable usage and supply rates on a no lock-in contract. There are also no exit fees, but customers will need to agree to direct debit payments and ebilling to be eligible for this plan.

GreenPower add-ons are also available on the Nothing Fancy offer for a small additional cost.

For the full terms and conditions of this offer, it is best to visit the Momentum Energy website.

Is Momentum Energy worth the switch?

Momentum Energy could be a good choice for households who are conscious of their carbon footprint and looking to reduce the environmental impact of their electricity usage. Backed by Hydro Tasmania – which claims to be Australia’s largest producer of renewable energy – Momentum Energy wields a heavy focus on cleaner energy and strives to provide greater energy sustainability in the country. This passion for renewable energy was even recognised highly by Greenpeace in its Green Electricity Guide in 2022.

In terms of what’s accessible to customers, Momentum Energy offers GreenPower options either as an add-on to the Nothing Fancy offer, or included as a small percentage on the Suit Yourself plan. It should be noted though that while Momentum Energy is passionate about renewable energy, it still sources its electricity for customers from the national grid, which contains a mixture of both renewable and non-renewable energy sources such as coal. What sets Momentum Energy apart is its commitment to growing renewable energy generation in Australia.
